Social Media Sites - Reading Your Texts, Your Emails and Even Capturing Photos Without Your Knowledge?

As a real estate broker, I'm advised to have my information on every social media platform available, and I do. Facebook, Twitter, Active Rain, this blog, my MANY websites etc. My job is to be found. God knows I am active on these platforms, particularly Facebook as many of my clients message me through there instead of email. I'm on Facebook. This article from Fox News reports that Facebook, Flickr and YahooMessenger can access my private texts and even emails? Seriously?
